Volunteering for Surfers Against Sewage

Volunteering for Surfers Against Sewage: Beach Cleaning at Freshwater West, Pembrokeshire

The beauty of volunteering is you get to meet so many like-minded people who want to help!

This film was put together by Andy and Siemon, Voices From Wales – A Video Series From Mother Bear Productions for free so we are really grateful. Also a big thanks to the talented Tom Dibb for letting us use his music.

A lot of you will already know that Jaz and I are the Surfers Against Sewage regional reps for South Pembrokeshire. This is purely a voluntary role, so we don’t get paid!

Our main aim is to try to keep our many beaches clean and free from plastic rubbish by rallying volunteers to come and help us collect it all and then we try to sort it and recycle or reuse as much of it as possible. We run workshops and talks at festivals and events to try to create awareness of the issues around single use plastics and other pollution.

We have been organising beach cleans at Freshwater West since 2014 but unfortunately it is never truly clean. Despite many other organisations, volunteer groups, schools and businesses also doing cleans we still have a huge problem with the ‘micro plastics’. It is an endless task picking these tiny fragments of plastic which come from bigger pieces broken down by the ocean and weather.

If you’d like to get involved please feel free to contact me (Anna) or take a look at the Surfers Against Sewage website for more information.

Saturday 4th May, 10am-4pm: The Big Plant sale, the Town Moor, Narberth.

The BIG Plant Sale is one of the most important dates on Pembrokeshire’s gardening calendar, and this year it’s 25 years old! It’s been a much-loved part of the Narberth calendar for so long that the spring in Pembrokeshire wouldn’t be the same without it. It’s a community event for all the family, featuring an acoustic stage, amazing local produce and food stalls, and there’s entertainment for the kids in the form of a bouncy castle and face painting!

In Lawrenny in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park – the UK’s only Coastal National Park. Post Code is SA68 0PP

We are a feel-good festival, in every sense of the word. For us, ‘feel good’ is just as much about an icy gin and tonic as it is a yoga class, because The Big Retreat is all about balance. It’s relaxing and energising in equal measures, a place to connect with others and with your own sense of self. We’re set in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park – the UK’s only Coastal National Park. People love The Big Retreat because we’re a small, safe, easy-going and unpretentious festival. We love nature and we want to help and encourage others to enjoy and respect its beauty and its benefits.

Unearthed Festival is about unearthing something hidden within. Something that lies deep within us, sub language, sub thought, like an underground stream that connects us all and nourishes.

We are very much about the Earth, environment and universe.

Unearthed Festival is not about groups. It’s about oneness. About creating a space where people of all backgrounds can come together peacefully and share knowledge, skills, conversations, laughter and dance.

iSea Surfwear hits the road

Road trip iSea style!

The sun is shining and that means just one thing road trips! It’s festival season! We love this time of year as we get to pack up the camper and show you what we’ve been working on all winter. It’s a great chance for us to get around the country and meet our customers in person, so if you spot our little yellow van parked up at a festival near you, then come over and say hello, meet the team, see our new-season prints, and find out about our exclusive show offers.

Growing up
Our recycling scheme is proving really popular at shows this summer and we’ve had loads of people coming along to trade in their little one’s hoodies for something new. We know kids grow out of their clothes quickly, so we’d love you to bring back your old iSea Surfwear kids’ clothing and swap them for store credit (up to £10 depending on the condition), so you can replace them with something new. Don’t worry if they’re a little damaged as we can either repair and resell them, or recycle them into something new. We also have a second-hand, re-sale section, where you can often pick up a bargain for kids that keep sprouting up!

Say cheese!
Did you know that you can find exclusive designs at our stall? All iSea clothing is unique, but when you buy from us at a festival you may find yourself with a limited edition print, the first of a test-run or something we’ve created just for that show. And, if you find our clothes are the perfect fit, then we can keep your sizing information on our database, making it really easy when you want to order again. We love it when people visit our stand wearing their iSea hoodies and tees, so don’t be surprised when you get asked to strike your best pose for a photo! Look out for your mug shots on our Instagram feed https://www.instagram.com/iseasurf/ #iseasurfadventure

iSea savings
We have so many loyal customers who keep coming back for more, that we’ve decided to say thank you by giving you some money off! We’re excited to launch our loyalty scheme this summer! Every time you buy an iSea hoody remember to get your loyalty card stamped by us, you can get money off with every 5 stamps collected. Come and sign up with us at any of the shows we’re at this summer.

Where to find us
We’re travelling all over the country to visit our favourite festivals this summer. Click the link to find out where we’ll be https://www.iseasurfwear.co.uk/festivals-events/
And if there are any festivals near you that are not on the list and that you think we’d love, then let us know as we’re always looking for new places to explore.

An excellent VW show on the outskirts of Bristol. A whole weekend of camping, entertainment, beautiful VW cars and vans on show, traders, music, live graffiti, good food, and happy people!

This year will be celebrated with a Vaudeville/Circus theme. We’ll be embracing the macabre and the weird. Fancy dress competitions, think Clowns, Burlesque, Strong Men, Two Headed Freaks, Bearded Ladies and Fortune Tellers all and everyone welcome.

Not only will 2017 see the 25th Bristol Volksfest, the date has changed  (only by a week) and they have changed the venue – moving to a beautiful new location in North Somerset where we are gratefully being hosted by the lovely farmhands at Birches Farm in Long Ashton.

PADDLE ROUND THE PIER, Brighton, 1-2 July

PADDLE ROUND THE PIER  Brighton, 1-2 July

Paddle Round the Pier is a spectacle that is the ultimate beach festival! It emerged, like all good things, from very humble beginnings. We are very please to be venturing all the way to Brighton to show our products and support the event.

In 1996 a small group of surfers, led by founder Dave Samuel, decided to bring together the surfing community in a social seafront event which would raise money for charity at the same time. From the 50 people who attended the first “Paddle”, the event has evolved in to what is now regarded as the world’s largest free charity beach festival, with average visitor numbers of 50,000+ people!

DUBS @ THE CASTLE Caldicot, 21st – 23rd July

DUBS @ THE CASTLE Caldicot, Wales, 21st – 22nd – 23rd July 2017

A fun filled family friendly Volkswagen show we will be having a stall here for the forth year. Spread the word guys, this year will be one to remember.

DUBS AT THE BEACH, Paignton, Devon, 28-30 July

DUBS AT THE BEACH Paignton, Devon, 28-30 July

Dubs at the Beach is back for 2017. The show consists of 2 nights camping in Churston (in between Paignton and Brixham). Then on the Sunday all the vans cruise down to Paignton Seafront for the usual ‘Show and Shine’ events in a wonderful setting right on the beach. As in the previous years the show will have its very own auto-jumble, trade stalls, kids entertainment, refreshments and more.

Dubs at the Beach, Devon

Over the past years the show has been a massive success with Volkswagen enthusiasts coming from all over the country and this year we want the show to be bigger and better than ever and aim to fill the green capacity.
